John Lennox Cummings
Aspiring Financial Advisor
John Lennox Cummings, who goes by Lennox, recently graduated summa cum laude from the College of Charleston Beatty School of Business with a 3.95 GPA. He was nominated for the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, which recognizes only the top 10% of seniors, and he was also a Merit Scholar. These academic results reflect his steady effort and strong focus throughout college.
He earned his degree with a major in Business Administration, concentrating in Finance, and he completed a minor in Spanish. His fluency in Spanish supported him during trips to Spain and Mexico. It also helped him in professional settings when communicating with coworkers, allowing him to work more smoothly across different environments.
Work Experience
Alongside his academic work and honors, he gained practical experience through internships and seasonal roles. Throughout the summers, he worked consistently, demonstrating discipline and a willingness to learn. Balancing classes while taking on real work responsibilities required strong organization, and he managed both. At 22, he has already completed several roles that helped him build the skills needed for a long-term career. His ability to maintain near-perfect academic performance while working reflects careful time management and clear professional goals.
He worked as a Tax/Accounting Intern for Bee Street Advisory Group in Charleston, South Carolina. In this position, he increased his knowledge of holistic financial planning and became proficient in several software programs, including QuickBooks and Intuit Tax. He prepared and filed tax returns for 17 C corporations, achieving a 13-day average turnaround, and for over 200 families, achieving a 5-day average turnaround. His work contributed to a 100% client retention rate, and no audits were required. This role required accuracy, responsibility, and attention to deadlines, and he handled the workload with care.
Before that, he served as a Finance and Client Relations Intern at Cummings Wealth Management Group in Charleston. Although he coincidentally shares the same last name as the company, there is no relation. During this internship, he learned to use financial software, supported 137 existing client relationships, and assisted with financial assumptions and internal fee audits for assets under management exceeding $400 million. The work exposed him to both client-facing responsibilities and the internal processes that support portfolio management and firm operations.
He is a certified Public Notary in the state of South Carolina. Earning this certification added another practical skill that supports his professional responsibilities and helps him serve clients and business needs more effectively.
He also worked at Lively Charleston Real Estate as an Inside Sales Intern. His duties included locating potential home buyers and sellers through Sierra Interactive, making 250 calls per day, and achieving a qualified lead generation rate of 7%. This position required consistency, communication skills, and the ability to stay focused while handling a high-volume daily routine. It also helped him strengthen his confidence while working toward measurable outcomes.
In the summer of 2023, he worked as a Store Experience Guide for YETI Coolers. In that role, he used sales, marketing, and customer service skills daily. He consistently exceeded daily sales quotas of $15,000 during the busy season. This experience helped him improve his communication with customers and support a strong store environment while staying focused on targets.
In August of 2025, he began working at Curran Financial Partners in Daniel Island, South Carolina. He currently supports the Portfolio Management Team as a client service representative. His responsibilities include opening, closing, and transferring accounts; moving money; handling annuity applications; answering client calls; and ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new clients. This role requires careful attention to detail, strong communication, and an understanding of workflows and client expectations.
His work background also includes time as a Server Assistant at 167 RAW Oyster Bar in Charleston. He also worked as District Manager for Boone Outdoor Maintenance and Landscaping in Hendersonville, North Carolina, during the summers of 2021 and 2022. In that position, he processed regional invoices and payments and managed expenses and revenue for over 60 properties across three counties in WNC. This role required responsibility and organization, since he handled financial tracking and operational needs across a wide area.
At 16, he worked as a cashier at Pelicans in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. In that job, he served customers and helped with digital and social media marketing. These early responsibilities helped him develop customer service skills and a strong sense of accountability. Working at a young age gave him real experience with reliability, communication, and basic marketing support, which later helped him handle larger responsibilities with confidence.
Lennox’s Early Commitment to Leadership and Giving Back
He attended an all-boys boarding school, Christ School, in Asheville. He was a Headmaster Scholar, which helped pay his tuition, and he graduated from the National Honor Society. His experience there supported his academic habits and helped him learn the importance of responsibility, structure, and consistent effort.
During high school, he volunteered often at his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville, through its monthly Saturday Sanctuary. He helped feed, house, and provide accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, helping build new, affordable homes in the Asheville area. These experiences gave him a clear understanding of service and helped him stay connected to the needs of others in his community.
He also served as a PEP tutor at the local T.C. Roberson High School. In that role, he helped teach special needs students in Buncombe County. This work required patience and steady support, and it allowed him to contribute meaningfully to local students and families.
Helping to Rebuild His Community
Following Hurricane Helene, which devastated Asheville and Western North Carolina, he contributed to hurricane relief efforts. He personally donated to Beloved Asheville, a nonprofit that made a significant impact on recovery efforts. He also helped sell Asheville and Appalachian-related stickers with his sister, with all proceeds donated to Beloved Asheville. These efforts reflect his willingness to take action when his community needed support and show that he values helping others through practical steps.
His Hobbies
In his free time, John Lennox Cummings enjoys fly fishing (he’s an avid angler). He spent a summer in Montana, fishing in the Rocky Mountains. He also enjoys boating, listening to and discovering new music, and attending concerts. These interests give him time to reset, stay active, and enjoy experiences outside of school and work.
Growing up in Asheville, which sits at about 2,200 feet and is surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, he enjoys nature and exploring the outdoors with his family and friends. John Lennox Cummings continues to value the lessons of hard work, service, and steady growth that have shaped his personal and professional path.
